Twice Ellsworth Community College found itself even with visiting Central Community College. In both instances, the Panthers were able to score the go-ahead runs and win both contests Sunday afternoon in Iowa Falls. The first was a 7-2 victory and the second was 4-2.
All knotted up at 1-1 after four and a half innings, ECC was able to score three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull away for the five-run win over the Raiders in game one. Seven different Panthers recorded hits in the contest, with Jolene Jordahl and Emery Walton each getting two knocks. Jordahl added three RBI to her stat line.
Millicent Wurst recorded the win in the circle. She hurled all seven innings and allowed just one hit and two runs with eight strikeouts. The lone blemish to Wurst's line came from five walks.
In the second contest ECC took the 2-0 lead before Central Community evened the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. The Panthers scored two runs in the fifth to take the lead and were able to hold on the rest of the contest.
At the plate Kiera Hochstein was 2-3 with an RBI. Melanie Khounsourath was 1-2 with a double and an RBI.
Jordahl got the pitching win, allowing five hits, two runs, walked two and struck out two.
ECC will host NIACC on Wednesday at Legion Field.
