Ellsworth Community College traveled to Vincennes, Ind. to play four matches in the Blazer Classic and split them evenly with two wins and a pair of losses.
On Friday, the Panthers lost to Wallace State Community College in three (25-15, 25-21, 25-17) and then bounced back to take down Wabash Valley College in four games. ECC won the first set 25-18 before falling 25-14 in game two and taking the final two by 25-15, 25-18 finals.
ECC (4-6) carried that momentum into Saturday and defeated Danville Area Community College in four. The Jaguars won the opener 25-23, before the Panthers won the next three 25-12, 25-17, 25-19. To close out the day, Vincennes University won in three. Taking a two game lead 25-19, 25-18. The third set was a crazy one before the Trailblazers earned the win, 31-29.
In the opening loss to Wallace State, ECC hit .053 percent. Anthea Deweer led the offensive with nine kills. The Panthers put up a good block, with eight double blocks. Sydnee Kammrad had three and Juliana Nunez finished with two. The Lions had a strong service game with nine aces.
ECC tallied 42 kills in the win over Wabash Valley. Nunez finished with a double-double of 16 kills and 19 digs. Elsa Raga also tallied 13 hits. Two others were in double figures defensively, with Adriana Tiedt digging up 14 balls and Camylle Le Meur had 13. Serving was strong with 12 aces - five from Nunez and three by Madi Hughston.
In the win versus Danville, the Panthers had 52 kills and .260 kill percentage. Hughston led the offensive attack with 17 kills followed by Raga's 13. Once again, it was the serving with 12 aces and six serving errors. Le Meur led the team with four while Nunez and Hughston added three each.
In the loss to the hosts, Hughston finished with 11 kills and Raga had 10. They still had five aces, three by Hughston. Defensively, the squad had four solo blocks and six assists -led by Deweer with two solo and two assists.
The Panthers make their home debut on Tuesday with ICCAC foe Southwestern Community College.
