Ellsworth Community College made a short weekend trip to Mason City to compete in NIACC's Border Bash splitting the results.
The Panthers lost to Minnesota West Community and Technical College in five games. The Bluejays built a 2-0 lead with 25-20 and 26-24 victories before ECC came back to win 25-23 and 25-13 to send the match into a deciding fifth set. MWCTC then put the hammer down in the fifth recording a 15-4 victory.
For the match, ECC (7-8) hit with a .132 efficiency. In the fifth game, they tallied just three kills and three errors. The Panthers finished the match with 52 kills and 28 errors while the Bluejays had 52 hits and 28 mishaps as well. Leading the way for ECC in the hitting category, Adriana Tiedt and Juliana Nunez tallied 13 each. Elsa Raga and Anthea Deweer each added 12.
Defensively, the Panthers dug up 84 balls with five players in double figures, led by Junez with 18.
ECC also finished with 11 service aces, led by vera Hojnacki with four.
The Panthers then bounced back with the 25-22, 25-13 and 25-19 victory over Rochester Community and Technical College. Offensively, ECC tallied 37 kills in the sweep, led by Raga with 11. Tiedt added eight and Nunez with seven. Defensively, ECC dug up 50 balls, led by Vera Hojnacki with 15 and Juliana Nunez had 13. They recorded 10 blocking assists and a solo. Deweer tallied four assists and the solo stop.
