Ellsworth Community College was down 24 points before even stepping on the mat in their home opener Wednesday night.

The Panthers were open at 125, 133, 165, and 174 against the defending junior college national champions, Indian Hills Community College. The Warriors are led by former Panther head coach Cole Spree. Of the six matches wrestled, the hosts won one match before falling 50-6.

That victory was in dominating fashion as Jean Ngoma dropped Ryan Darnell with three hard throws before pinning him in 4:44 at 197 pounds.

Indian Hills won the other five matches with tech falls at 141 and 157 and pins at 149 and 184. They added a major decision at 285 to end the dual.

"I just wanted to see fight and grit and wrestle positions, and I didn't see enough of that tonight," head coach Diorian Coleman said. "We definitely need to work on that in the room and get tougher. I talked to the guys before we have to go out there with a screw you mentality. Jean showed that tonight. He didn't really care who was in front of him. He went out there with some moxie and he wanted to put on the show, and he did. That's what I expected from all of our guys."
