First losses come at Reiver Classic

Ellsworth Community College suffered its first losses of the season, 46-41 to Allen County and 74-64 to State Fair Community College.

It was a three-point spread after the first 10 minutes with the Red Devils (4-0) holding the slight 13-10 advantage. The second quarter ECC struggled and were outscored by nine (17-8) to trail 30-18 at the break. The Panthers cut the deficit in the third quarter but could not full complete the comeback before falling by five.

ECC shot 23 percent from the floor, hitting 12 of 51. They were led by Rosario Mera with eight points. Claudia Sanz Dorange and Brooklyn Love both added seven.

There was one bad quarter in the second game versus the Roadrunners (4-0) as well. State Fair jumped out to a 10 point advantage after the opening stanza (19-9). The Panthers cut into the deficit and trailed 27-26 at the half.

It remained close heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest before State Fair won the high scoring period by six (27-21).

The Panthers will play Jefferson College on Saturday in the home Dale Howard Classic at 2 p.m.
