While her teammates were struggling and were 0-13 from beyond the arc, Ellsworth Community College sophomore Laia Santanach hit seven baskets from downtown to help the Panthers to a 72-47 win in Estherville on Saturday.

ECC (14-1, 7-0) found itself down throughout the first half. They trailed by four (14-10) after the opening 10 minutes and did not shoot well. The difference remained two possessions at the break, with the Lakers (7-12, 2-6) leading 27-23.

In the third stanza, Panthers knotted the score at 28-28 but the Lakers went on a 5-0 run to lead 33-28. With six and a half minutes left in the period, Marin Agustsdottir was at the line and made both of her free throws to even the score one again at 33-33. ECC remained on top and went into the final quarter leading 50-42, including a big tres by Santanach.

The final quarter Panthers really put the game away, outscoring the hosts 22-5 and went on a 11-1 run to put the game out of reach.

Santanach led all scoring with 26 points. Three others were in double figures with Taylor Ross finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Ella Sharar was six for six from the free throw line and tallied 12 points, 16 boards for a double-double and Favour Anyaele (12 points, nine rebounds) was also in double digits.
