Ellsworth Community College trailed Iowa Western Community College by as many as 15 before coming back and ending their losing skid at two with the 85-78 victory.
The Panthers (17-7, 7-6) never had the advantage in the first 20 minutes. They tied the score once early (6-6), but the Reivers kept their distance. Iowa Western went on top 44-30 and held a 10-point lead going into the half (49-39).
Enki Diarra-Gentes drained a triple to start the second half as ECC went on a 9-0 run to get within one, that was ended on a Rav Randhawa's layup (49-48). The first Panther lead was 51-50 on a Diarra-Gentes make and free throw. The two would then go back and forth with seven lead changes. The final time the Reivers (15-9, 7-6) would be on top was 74-72. Willie Patterson III drained two free throws and then the Panthers stole the rock and Trey Burris' make gave the visitors the lead.
In a game that had 40 free throws and 32 combined fouls, ECC went 5-7 from the charity stripe in the final minutes and 17 of 24 for the game, the Reivers were 3-5 in the same stretch.
Patterson led all scoring with 22 points and finished with a double-double with 16 rebounds and added two steals. He was 10 of 11 from the charity stripe in the game. Three others were in double figures, including Randhawa with 16, Burris (15) and Diarra-Gentes (12).
