Four being inducted into Hall of Fame

Ellsworth Community College Athletic Director Nate Forsyth recently announced that four former student-athletes will be enshrined. Sam Mosley, Sarah Van Diepen, John Rabe and JJ Reimer will join the Hall of Fame for the Class of 2025. The honorees will participate in an induction ceremony on Friday, Oct. 17 and will be announced at halftime of the Panthers homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 18.


Mosley was a member of the men’s basketball team in 1978-80. The Panthers finished 27-5 his sophomore year, but never made the NJCAA Tournament. His final year on the floor in the Scenic City, Mosley shot at a 52.2 percent clip, scoring 502 points and averaging 19 points per game. He was named first team all-region and transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno – where he was named all-Big Sky Conference. Mosley is one of three former basketball players to be drafted into the National Basketball Association, and was also selected in the National Football League Draft.


Van Diepen played for the women’s basketball team from 1988-90. She is still listed in several all-time lists including single season points (638), single season rebounds (309) and single season scoring average (21.0). She is fourth all-time in season blocks (71) and was all-region both years, including first team her sophomore season. She went on to play for Colorado State University.


Rabe, an Iowa Falls-Alden graduate, played football from 2009-2011. His freshman season he was first team all-conference as a tight end. He recorded 25 catches for 488 yards and two touchdowns. His sophomore year and was first team all-conference and first team all-American. Rabe caught 43 passes for 406 yards and two touchdowns as ECC went 9-1 that year. He then went on to play for the University of Minnesota and eventually signed with the Pittsburg Steelers organization.


Reimer was a catcher on the baseball team from 2011-2013. He was a first team all-region selection and a third team all-American. He’s still on some of the all-time lists for the Panthers including hitting 14 doubles his sophomore year. He was .331 at the dish that spring with 27 runs, four dingers and 35 runs batted in. As a freshman, Reimer was .254 at the plate with 11 doubles, a triple and a homer. He went on to play at Western Illinois and was the hitting coach for the University of Northern Iowa softball team.


“There’s a ton of great student-athletes that came through here,” said Forsyth. “We look at it from tenures, what their career was here and then we look at what they did after Ellsworth. A lot have gone on and accomplished great things at the next level or at their next stop and then have gone on a to do great things with their lives.”
