ECC hires Sara Jesse for new volleyball coach

Ellsworth Community College is happy to announce that Sara Jesse has been hired as the new volleyball coach.

Jesse has most recently been an assistant coach at DMACC this past season, where they reached the Regional Finals. Prior to her time at DMACC she was an assistant coach at Union High School for three years. At Union the team qualified for state twice and finished second one of those years. She began her coaching career early, working with middle school girls while she was still in high school and coaching a club team in Union, IA for seven years.

Jesse is a 2012 Union High School graduate. She lettered and played varsity all four years, was team captain twice, received All-State honors (1), qualified for state (2), All-Region honors (2), All-Conference (3) and Academic All-Conference (2). In 2010, as a junior, Jesse helped Union High School qualify for state, the first time in school history. After graduating she attended DMACC and received All-Conference honors. DMACC also qualified for Nationals during her sophomore year and placed 8th.

When asked about her new position at ECC Jesse commented, "I'm looking forward to joining a great, supportive community at Ellsworth. I'm also excited to take the volleyball program and expand on the foundation that has been built."

In terms of what she is looking for in a player for ECC she says, "I am looking for girls who are solid academically and athletically and who are disciplined and very coachable. Players who show respect to the coaches, teammates, school, and community."

Jesse describes her coaching style as helping to create a solid and consistent foundation on the court and in the classroom. She also wants to create independent thinkers and to help players excel to the best of their abilities.

Originally from La Porte City, IA Jesse is the daughter of Brad and Renee Jesse. She has two older brothers, Mark and Eric. Her family has been a big influence in her love of the game. "My family is big into volleyball. My dad and two uncles have been coaching high school and club teams for many years as well as playing volleyball for a long time."

ECC will open their 2018 season hosting Hawkeye Community College on Wednesday, August 29 at 7 pm.
