Anna Smith, a 5'5 setter from Marengo, IA, has signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Ellsworth Community College.
Smith attends Iowa Valley High school, and has been a member of the Tigers varsity squad since her freshman year, and setter and team captain for the last three. Part of the South Iowa Cedar League Conference, she's received 1st Team All-Conference honors the past three years for her efforts as the starting setter. The Tigers took away 1st place in the South Iowa Cedar League in 2012 and 2013, and in 2013, Smith helped lead Iowa Valley to a 20-8 record. She tallied 567 set assists, averaging 7.8 per set. She also served at an impressive 97% with 23 aces. Smith has also been a part of an Academic Team during the four years she contributed to varsity, and was awarded individual academic honors for two of those years. In 2013, she was selected to play in the All-Star Tri State games for Team Iowa. She's also played five years of junior Olympic Club volleyball, and three of those years with the Cedar Rapids Spikers.
"Anna has been a part of a winning tradition for the past four years now," Panthers Head Coach Melanie Lane stated. "She understands what it takes to offensively lead a team, and is also a solid defensive player."
Anna is daughter to Will and Diane Smith and sister to Emily and Elizabeth. Anna has been a part of the National Guard since March of 2013.
