ECC volleyball successful weekend

Ellsworth Community College's volleyball team traveled to Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, MN this past weekend for a successful tournament.

The Panthers went 3-1 for the weekend defeating Dakota County Technical College, Minnesota State Community and Technical College and Bismark State College; their one loss was to Madison College.

"We had a much better weekend. We did good things offensively, and were able to depend on multiple people to put down the ball when we needed it. Our middles (Alissa Denn and Naomi Forgy) had a great weekend," commented Head Coach Melanie Lane.  "We finally got over the hump of being able to finish games, as we won two close sets 29-27 against Minnesota CTC- Fergus Falls and 30-28 against Bismark CC. We still can be better, as we were up in the first two sets against Madison Area Technical College (ranked #1 in DIII), but couldn't finish. However, we're a completely different team than we were two weeks ago, and if we continue to grow we'll peak at the right time."

Stat leaders for the weekend were Forgy with 39 kills, 14 blocks and 12 aces; Alli Hornbrook, 112 set assists; Madison Grabau, 53 digs; Mary Besler, 25 kills; and Denn with 33 kills and 7 blocks.

The Panthers will be at home Tuesday, Sept. 10 in a triangular against Grand View JV at 4:30 and Wartburg JV at 7:30.
