The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team suffered a 0-3 loss on Wednesday, Sept. 4, against Iowa Central. All three games were close for the Panthers but fell just short of pulling out a win. Games were 19-25, 22-25, 25-27.
"We have been working on our offense and mental toughness in the last week since our loss to Kirkwood. We started off a little slow in game one, but came out to a 6-0 lead in game two," said Head Coach Melanie Lane. "Unfortunately, we have to learn to finish games, but I was proud of the girls for showing resiliency after a first set loss and rebounding in game two. We also showed mental toughness when we were down 4-12 in the third set, and kept chipping away until the score was 25-24 in our favor. We eventually lost 27-25, but we played tough."
"We still have a ways to go, but we're improving every week so that is promising. We unfortunately had the two teams that went to nationals last year in back-to-back conference games to start our season – so it was definitely a tough first part of our schedule. Our schedule should lighten a bit, so we're able to get back on top and ready for the top contenders in our conference the next time around," stated Coach Lane.
The Panthers will travel to Rochester, MN, this weekend for a five-game tournament; they'll be back at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, for a triangular against Grand View JV at 4:30 pm and Wartburg JV at 7:30 pm.
