The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their academic excellence during the 2012-13 year, earning the AVCA Team Academic Award.
The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
ECC was one of only 16 junior colleges in the nation to receive this prestigious honor.
"The ladies from the 2012-13 season did a fantastic job holding each other accountable and staying self-disciplined throughout the entire year, says Head Volleyball Coach Melanie Lane. "They've worked hard to earn this honor. The returning sophomores have done a great job setting the tone of high expectations that will carry on to the 2013-14 season."
