Panthers send 9 to Nationals; Hurford & Guillaume win Regional Titles

The Ellsworth Community College wrestling team qualified nine wrestlers for the upcoming National Tournament. The Panthers competed in the North Central National Qualifier hosted by Iowa Lakes on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Panthers Matt Hurford (184) and Ritchie Guillaume (165) reached the finals to capture regional titles. Eric Franklin (133) also made the finals, but fell just short of winning a championship; he lost to Darrell Pampkin of Iowa Central by a 5-4 score.

The other six ECC national qualifiers are Da'Wayne Robertson (125), Mike Stewart (141), Jacob Igartua (149), Anthony Cimorosi (157), Chaeden Grace-Reyes (197), and DJ McIntyre (285).

The next action for the Panther wrestlers will be the National Junior College Championships in Spokane, WA. Competition will begin on Friday, Feb. 28, at 9:30 am (Pacific Time).
