Three years ago, Sarah Day, Director of the Iowa Falls After-School program, reached out to Ellsworth Community College's head football coach with a new idea: let elementary students in the after-school program to run drills with the football team. Three years later the tradition still stands, albeit with some unexpected ripple effects. The elementary students enjoy the afternoon yesterday with the team, but the ECC football players might just have had more fun. Whoops and hollers could be heard on the football field as the team cheered on the young students, most of whom were learning football drills for the first time.
This was a special day for the Panthers. It allowed the team to be a little silly, and just maybe instill a love for football in some young fans and potential student-athletes.
