Ellsworth Community College alumni and former defensive back for the Panthers Blayke Spears, a resident of Waterloo, has signed a contract to play professional indoor football in the CPIFL for the Dodge City Law in Kansas.
Spears played for ECC former head coach Mike Virden in 2010 and 2011. He was a 2009 graduate of Dike New Hartford High School.
In November, Spears made the 10 hour drive to southwest Kansas to try out for the Dodge City Law. He competed with more than three dozen other players to make the team. A few weeks later, Spears received word that he had been chosen to be a member of the inaugural team.
Spears, who previously played for several semi-pro teams, is excited to get his professional career started in Dodge City
"It is a great opportunity for me as an athlete," Spears said, "But, it is a greater opportunity for me to join a team and be a part of Dodge City history."
