ECC Football awarded both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week

Two Ellsworth Community College football players earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) as a result of the team's win over Arkansas Baptist College last weekend. The Panthers came out on top with a 29-26 victory in five overtimes.

Sophomore running back Trey Gilbert was awarded the ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week title. Gilbert had 28 carries last weekend for a total of 70 yards and three touchdowns to help secure the Panther's first win of the season.

"We lean on Trey to be a leader for the offensive side of the ball," said Head Coach Josh Lattimer. "He is a returning all-conference player, therefore our expectations are high for him. I am extremely proud of Gilbert's performance at last Saturday's game."

Sophomore linebacker Devante Averette received ICCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Averette had a total of 19 tackles last weekend: 13 solo, 6 assist, and 8.5 tackles for a loss of 26 yards.

"Devante is a force of nature on the football field! He is also a returning all-conference player and we look to him to make big time plays. He is a leader on our defense and he brings a high level of energy to the field," commented Coach Lattimer. "I'm extremely proud of both men for their accomplishments."
