The public is invited to the Ellsworth Community College baseball team's first annual Lead Off Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 5 pm at Highland Country Club in Iowa Falls. A highlight will be the keynote address from Iowa native Mike Boddicker, who pitched 14 seasons in the major leagues and won the World Series with Baltimore in 1983.
"This is a new concept I would like to make a tradition to start off our baseball season every year," explains ECC Head Coach Travis Akre. "This event will fund our spring trips and equipment upgrades, as well as providing substantial funds to the Martin Dittmer baseball scholarship."
ECC alumni, baseball enthusiasts, family, friends, and supporters of ECC baseball are invited to attend.
Keynote speaker Mike Boddicker was a pitcher at the University of Iowa and was drafted in 1978. He pitched for 14 season in the major leagues, enjoying careers with Baltimore, Boston, Kansas City, and Milwaukee. In 1984 he led the American League in both ERA and wins, and in 1990 he received a Rawlings Gold Glove award.
The Lead Off Dinner event will also include a welcome from Head Coach Akre, a meet and greet with the 2014 baseball team, and a silent auction.
Tickets are $30 per person, which includes dinner. For ticket information contact Coach Akre at 641-648-8534 or 507-313-9302 or email Travis.Akre@iavalley.edu.
