ECC names 2019 Athletes of the Year

Ellsworth Community College named the 2018-2019 Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year and Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. This award is presented to students who exhibit exceptional behavior both in the classroom and on the field/court/mat. This year's recipients were Naeem Smith (football) and Lexi Riggall(softball).

The award is determined as each head coach nominates one athlete from each team and submits a list of his/her accomplishments. Once the names and accomplishments are submitted, all head coaches and athletic department personnel vote a second time for the male and female they think are most deserving.

Riggall was 2nd Team All Region, Academic All Region, and 2nd on the softball team her Freshman year for hits and doubles. Sophomore year she was named Academic All Region, Honorable Mention All Region and 2nd on the team in Hits, Doubles and RBI's.

"Lexi has been a third base starter both years at ECC and is a hitter other teams don't want to face in our lineup, Kristi Larson," ECC Head Softball coach said. "She is a solid representation of a student athlete both at ECC and in the community and will be greatly missed in the line up next year."
